    Building Plans Examiner - Mechanical

    Salary: $70,258.45 Annually

    Description: Under supervision of the Chief Mechanical Inspector, performs technical work associated with the reviewing of mechanical plans to assure compliance with the Florida Building Code, occasionally performing mechanical field inspections, and a variety of other duties associated with enforcement of the Florida Building Code.

     

    Minimum Training and Experience 

    Graduation from an accredited High School or GED; and
     104.10.3 Certification of the Mechanical Plans Examiner. To be eligible for appointment as a Mechanical Plans Examiner, such person shall be certified as required by the State of Florida, BCAIB as a Mechanical Plans Examiner and as a Mechanical Inspector. Such person shall be certified by BORA and shall meet at least one of the following qualifications: Exception: Engineers are exempt from BCAIB certification only.
     104.10.3.1 An Engineer in the discipline requested and having practiced for a minimum of three (3) years and a minimum of two (2) years as a Mechanical Inspector employed by a municipality or private company contracted with a municipality; or School Board within the State of Florida.
     
    104.10.3.2 Seven (7) years of combined experience as a Mechanical Contractor or Class "A" Air Conditioning Contractor or Class "B" Air Conditioning Contractor or Mechanical Journeyman, five (5) years of which shall have been construction experience in the Mechanical discipline and a minimum of two (2) years as a Mechanical Inspector employed by a municipality or private company contracted with a municipality or School
    Board within the State of Florida.

    An applicant for Certification as a Mechanical Plans Examiner under the provisions of this section who is a graduate from an accredited school holding a Bachelor or an Associate of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering may be credited for three (3)
    years for a Bachelor Degree or one (1) year for an Associate Degree of the required seven (7) years of experience.

     

    Special Requirements

     

    In addition to the aforementioned requirements:

    104.10.3.3 Each of the applicants shall possess a current Certificate of Competency as a Mechanical Contractor or Class "A" Air Conditioning Contractor or Class "B" Air Conditioning Contractor issued by at least one of the following entities:
     
    A. Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board
    B. Broward County Central Examining Board of Mechanical Contractors and Specialty Mechanical Contractors
    C. Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board, Block proctored, issued on or after January 1, 1968.
    D. Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as an Engineer.

    Exception: Individuals holding licenses as a Class "B" Air Conditioning Contractor, with a current Certificate of Competency issued by the above mentioned Boards, may be certified with duties limited to the review plans of air conditioning and mechanical work within the scope of his or her Certificate of Competency. Plans Examiners employed under this exception shall be required to attend the first available formal educational course as approved by BORA immediately following employment.

    The City of Tamarac is seeking a Plumbing Inspector/Plans Examiner Temporary/Will-Call.  The Plumbing Inspector/Plans Examiner under regular supervision, inspects new and existing buildings and structures to enforce conformance to appropriate building codes and approved plans, specifications and standards. Observes conditions and issues notices for corrections to persons responsible for conformance to the Florida Building Code and City Codes.   Examines plans submitted for permits to determine conformity with codes and regulations.  Requires high school diploma or GED, a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Plumbing Inspector/Plans Examiner, and must be certified by the State of Florida and the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals as a Plumbing Inspector/Plans Examiner. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

    GFA International, Inc. is seeking FULL TIME or PART TIME Inspectors and Plan Reviewers in its Fort Myers/Naples and Sarasota/Manatee areas of Florida.

    Candidates must possess at least one of the following:

    *      Building Code Administrator

    *      1 & 2 Family Dwelling Inspector and/or Plans SFP

    *      Standard Inspector (Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)

    Specific job responsibilities are based on the applicants experience and certifications.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

    ·         Licensed in the State of Florida to perform Plan Review and Inspections

    ·         Licensed by the State of Florida FS 468 as a Building Code Administrator

    ·         Experience performing building and/or MEP inspections

    ·         Experience performing building and/or MEP plan review

    ·         High School diploma or equivalent education; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred

    ·         Valid State Drivers License  

    ·         Good written and verbal communication skills including legible handwriting

    ·         Candidates must be team players and work well with others.

    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    ·         Multi-trade certifications are a plus

    ·         Licensed by the State of Florida FS 633 as a fire inspector and/or plans examiner
